Have you ever looked in the mirror and given yourself a little smile? You’ve been feeling chirpy and life is good; that is until you are reminded of your misaligned teeth.
Having misaligned teeth can make people have low self-esteem, feel reluctant to smile freely and avoid doing so for those all-important social media-worthy moments.
Along with avoiding smiling too much, adults tend to avoid doing anything to improve the alignment of their teeth because they think that it will need to involve a lot of metal and discomfort, not to mention the embarrassment of wearing ‘train tracks’ that only an adolescent could carry off with an ounce of dignity what wisecrack would Bob in accounts come out with?!
Thankfully, patients do not just have to choose between a realigned smile and constant quips from comedians in accounts, or putting up with a smile that makes you wish Bob really could make you laugh freely gritted teeth don’t count!
Many patients are now being offered a treatment that is discreet, comfortable and effective with Invisalign in Clapham.
What is it?
Also known as clear braces, this treatment is a big hit with young people and adults alike. Invisalign Teen is specially designed for teenagers and the regular version is for anyone else with their adult teeth.
It is simply clear plastic aligners which apply pressure to the teeth to gradually move them into the desired position. They are custom made to fit the individual patient’s mouth and can be removed as required.
Patients are given a number of aligners to wear and change every week or two, having regular check-ups every 6 weeks or so.
What are the advantages?
The beauty of these little beauties is that when they are worn, they are very difficult to see as they are made of clear plastic.
This means that as you are talking and smiling (and indulging Bob with his jokes), people shouldn’t realise that you are wearing them. They should also sit snugly on the gum line as they are made to fit your mouth using iTero technology.
The 3D scan you get with iTero also allows you to have an animation of what your teeth will look like after treatment, even before you start wearing your aligners – there’s a motivation for you!
Other benefits include the fact that you can remove the aligners whenever you want to, although it is usually recommended that you wear them for 22 hours a day on average.
This does leave plenty of time to remove them while you eat and it means that you don’t have to change your diet when using Invisalign. They are also pretty difficult to break, so you shouldn’t need too many emergency appointments with your dentist.
Treatment can also be pretty quick; you could see results in as little as 6 months, depending on your dental needs.
If you think that clear braces could be the way forward for you, book in with a dentist for a consultation and they will be able to advise you about whether or not Invisalign is the right treatment for you.
There’s no escaping that they can be a wonderful way to get you smiling again and the joy of it all is that nobody will know how you did it!
