Restorative dentistry

Restorative dentistry is the practice of rebuilding the teeth to restore their natural function. The main purpose and goal of restorative dentistry is to ensure that the teeth are functioning correctly, and no matter what damage or decay the teeth have been subjected to through neglect, they are restored to full use.

Your teeth can also be accidentally damaged, resulting in them not functioning properly, which will also make them eligible for some restorative dentistry.

Broken teeth

Depending on how damaged the teeth are, they can be subjected to a variety of different treatments. If the teeth are simply chipped, then they can have some cosmetic bonding applied to them.

Cosmetic bonding uses a material to fill in the chips and cracks of the teeth in order to make them more aesthetically pleasing. This also has a general dentistry benefit, whereby it also helps to prevent any further decay of the teeth.

Cracks and crevices can be ideal areas for cavities to form, so it is important that if you have any damage to your teeth, then they are fixed as soon as possible, as they can be at serious risk of further destruction.

Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can be a common issue, and for some people they may have missing teeth that have been gone for years. It is not a good idea to leave teeth missing, as the jaw is often not aligned properly, and your bite can become incorrect.

This can cause erosion of the teeth, which can in turn increase the risk of cavities and damage to the teeth.

If you have missing teeth, then make sure to contact your dentist as soon as possible. It does not matter if your teeth have been missing for a day, or several years, you should consult your dentist, and they will have treatments available either way.

Aesthetically, a missing tooth can be unsightly, and therefore can make people feel self-conscious. Many dental practices understand this, and will factor this into their treatment process, making sure that you leave with a natural looking smile that you are comfortable with.

Dental Implants

One sure way of replacing a tooth, is with a dental implant. Dental implants are one of the most advanced dental treatments available, and one of the most efficient.

It is important to consider that dental implants are also expensive and may be something that needs to be carefully considered first. However, if you decide to go ahead with the treatment, they have some fantastic benefits.

A dental implant is essentially a titanium screw that is inserted into the jawbone and fitted with a crown. The titanium screw is inserted into the bone and left for a certain time period, in order to let the bone grow around the screw.

This means that the implant will become fused with your jawbone and be extremely secure. The chances of a successful implant coming loose are extremely slim, and with correct maintenance, your implant should last for life.

If the crown is broken or damaged, this can be simply and cheaply replaced with a new one, on top of the existing screw root.
